Being ´any one´, ´some one´ or ´no one´

2018, about travelling and identity,

you have a sort of uniqueness in

being foreign, you see things differently.

You have more freedom.

Others do not know you and naturally when you meet someone they ask questions, to sort of getting to know you, wanting to place you. It is fun!

Because my life is too complex.

You are able to introduce yourself in many ways, Instantly getting into a role or into a format that allows conversation.

It makes you think you can be anyone. And so you can.

Being in France and understanding the language more and more, I have a build-up tension that makes it difficult for me to remain ´no-one´.

Being Dutch the French language is

a challenge; I understand French.

I can read it, but writing is more  difficult, and speaking is a struggle.

I speak a few languages….badly.

I am used to search for words and

making errors, however for some reason I hate it the most when I am in France.

I wish to speak French…and to do so beautifully, fluently, like a song from Emmanuel Moire.  Or not at all!

I visit France a lot.

You get accustomed in getting lost and being foreign, it gets even difficult to keep the status as you start recognizing signs

and symbols in other towns quicker than someone who is more local.

I can still get lost. I just got better in

finding my way back.

I am still foreign. I am just foreign

very, very frequently.

I am a ‘wannabe tourist’, hiding language skills and pretending to need Google

maps before every corner of the street.

If you travel, you have freedom. And at the same time can feel alone because you experience your identity is not fixed.

Going into a factory, roles are defined. You are the auditor, the listener into new territory. And people in the factory are organized and have specific tasks.

This can be an absurd contrast to the freedom.

My world today

The Air is too dry

It is meant for instruments and comes in cylinders.

The Oxygen you cannot breath either

It is liquid, light blue, highly dangerous inflammable stuff.

People hate moist. It seems to ruin everything

People are concerned on Sulphur. Sulphur is bad.

The chemist knows.

You can control if something needs to be liquid or gas here

However some you cannot retain for long.

If you burn, you purify.

If you cool, your transport.

If you stop.

4400 tonnes of storage shall leave you empty in 5-7 days.

The Production manager knows.

This ingredient in bulk is used as a barrier.

It  preserves dry powder in a Poly Ethyleen Linered bag.

The shelf-life can be more than 2 years in that way.

The Packaging expert knows.

OK. This is my world today.

Above text is derived from listening into a chemical plant and talking to several experts in their role, I see this as an example of how strange it can be and how roles are defining who you are. However, if you step out of this narrow role.

If you walk in a street, and someone asks you ´who are you?´

You have complete freedom in your answer back.

Enjoy the conversation!
