'And then the snow came'

2021, besides writing I am into my second theatre project in Corona time – and it is a special one in many ways - most so in terms of circumstances. Learning from the previous one is almost impossible. The situation has changed so much: different tasks, different actors, different lock-down. And above all : a different sentiment.

We are filming. And I am learning and deep diving into that medium.

‘And then the snow came’ is one of the best examples of an impossible creative project that finally worked out. It succeeded and became special because of the ´problem´: in this case the snow. And by keeping the process fluid all the time. I love it so much

“And this is when the miracle occurred. A week before the end of filming, the snow came. It was only the end of November, but the temperatures dropped to minus 15, and thick snow paralysed Poland. The conditions were impossible and continuity was all over the place, as three quarters of the film had been shot without snow. We had to break until the snows melted. A catastrophe for the production. But what a relief for me! I’d live to see another day. I had my rewriting break after all. “

Paweł Pawlikowski on Filming “Ida”.

If the process can do its work, if you trust it to do so, you just let anything that comes your way influence you and your project into its own uniqueness.

It is winter, and we are about to get snow here too...
